International Yoga Day

In the year 1995, Yoga was introduced as a part of the regular curriculum in the forces, especially for soldiers undergoing training .

Training in yoga is being imparted to all army personnels as part of overall physical training that includes an eight weeks yoga course conducted thrice a year at the Army Institute of Physical Training, Pune.

The trained personnel are further utilised at places wherever posted to train the troops. Physical health benefits of yoga, such as reduction of stress in isolated locations , has been most beneficial.

This year a total of approx 4 lakh Jawans and Officers participated in the INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA – 2016 across the entire length and breadth of the nation – from the icy peaks of Glaciers to Deserts of Thar, to the plains and in military cantonments sprung across all the cities.
